by Joe Mayne The workplace of yesterday was rigid, predictable and defined. Today, the pace of change is increasing and there is more uncertainty. You can count on more of the same in the years ahead. To succeed and stay sane, let me provide you with some perspective: Many of us entered the job market with a set career path. A distinct road map with promotions and |
advancements acting as milestones of success. Work hard, stay on the right track and you'll climb the ladder on your road to success. Well much has changed...Someone removed the road signs, the twists and turns are no longer marked. The milestones don't mean anything and someone stole the ladder. Technology and a wildly changing marketplace has altered how businesses
serve their customers. It means that how businesses are organized will
no longer |
be able to be defined on an organizational flowchart. Job descriptions are fluid, just like the market. So stop looking for a ladder. Use your skills and attitudes as your "Corporate Compass" and climb into your rubber raft. It's moored near where the ladder used to be. There is no more roadmap. Now there are market undercurrents that will send you in many directions. As sailors used the stars, you must use your quest for balance and values as your guides. Get in your raft...the tide is rising! |
